- Carlo Maria Suriano A Mamluk landscape: carpet weaving in Egypt and Syria under Sultan Qaitbay / Instantly recognisable, the geometric design favoured by carpet weavers in the Mamluk Empire remains mysterious for a number of reasons. Not only is the origin of the design still uncertain, but both date and place of production of these carpets continue to be debated. This re-examination of the problem focuses in two unusual Mamluk rugs. Their very different iconography offers clues for attributing the rest of the production, and suggests that, along with Cairene weavers, Syrian carpet makers played a key role in the Mamluk carpet industry.

- Geneviève Duggan Woven blossoms, seeds of history: ikats of Savu as time markers / Far from the trading routes of the past, the Island of Savu in eastern Indonesia has retained many of its ancient customs. In particular, its isolation has meant that specific knowledge linked to its weaving traditions has been preserved. Here the author of "Ikats of Savu" examines the way in wich Savunese woven patterns can be directly linked to specific female ancestries and groups in the island's culture, enabling dates to be assigned to motifs with relative ease.
