|g The Aynard prayer rug, Mughal India, Shah Jahan period, second quarter of the 17th century, 0.90 x 1.24m. This superb Mughal prayer rug, named after a previous owner. It belongs to a very small group of surviving mid 17th century prayer rugs characterized by a realistically drawn single flowering plant, in a style much influenced by Dutch Herbal paintings. It is possible that this rug once formed part of a saf, or multiple niche prayer carpet.

Esta magnífica alfombra de oración mogol, que recibe su nombre de un antiguo propietario, pertenece a un grupo muy reducido de alfombras de oración de mediados del siglo XVII que han llegado hasta nuestros días; se caracterizan por presentar una única planta florida representada con gran realismo, en un estilo fuertemente influido por las pinturas botánicas holandesas. Es posible que esta pieza formara parte en su día de un "saf*" o alfombra de oración con múltiples nichos.
