Undyed sheep's wool, goat hair and yarns plied from woven cloth fragments; some henna-dyed spots, 1.44 x 2.93m. In the Anti-Atlas region, flat weaves of this type are woven on a greyish brown or beige ground. Similar pieces have been found among the Ida ou Zekri and ek Feijja tribes from the central Anti-Atlas region. Such textiles are used either as a hanbel (sleeping cover or blanket) or as a haik (wedding veil). This example was probably used as a hanbel, as it is too small to be haik (typically worn as a wrap-around outer garment, measuring up to four metres in lenght). This example is of outstanding quality as pieces of this type are usually much rougher and coarser in their weaving. The free and creative design, expressed simply through the weaving process and the blend of naturally coloured yarns, is quite exeptional.
