  • Imagen de la portada: The Von Bode Çintamani Rug. Northwest Anatolia. late 16th or early 17th century. 2.02 x 3.15m. This much-published white ground carpet and the few genuine surviving examples like it represent the best known, simplest and most striking use of çintamani in rugs. The design elements, which originate in painting, a medium more appropriate to flowing curves, are not ideally suited to the knotted pile technique, and the relatively coarse knotting emphasises the angular drawing of the stripes and circles.
