505 |t Imagen de la portada:  |g The Pillow Cover of Alfonso de la Cerda. Spain, Nasrid period, circa 1273-1333 AD. 0.56 x 0.58m. Wool tapestry on a woollen foundation in naturalistic Gothic style. This cover is of Hispano-Arabic manufacture. It was discovered in the coffin of Alfonso de la Cerda, who probably died in 1333. He was the son of Blanche of Castile and the Infante Fernando and the grandson of Alfonso X the Learned and Louis IX of France. It belongs to a small group of weavings which were previously classified as "medieval needlepoint". However, the pieces in question, which also include the cap of the Infante Fernando and the pillow covers of Queen Berengaria and Leonor of Castile are not needle embroidered, but loom woven.
