505 |t Imagen de la portada:  |g Tapestry-woven cover with Hapsburg eagles, Peru, 17th century or later. Wool on cotton and wool, 1.90 x 1.67m. This Colonial or Viceregal tapestry shows the characteristic fusion of foreign (European and Asian) and indigenous Andean elements. Here, the most prominent image is the Hispanic double-headed eagle symbolising the Hapsburg kings who ruled Spain from 1516 onwards. The white scalloped edges of the border might be inspired by European lace. The central medallion compares to Spanish Alpujarra rugs of the 18th and 19th centuries.
