505 |t Imagen de la portada:  |g Nasrid (?) silk lampas fragment with geometric interlace design, southern Spain or North Africa. 14th or 15th century. 0.56 x 0.47m. This lampas woven silk has a satin ground and weft-faced tabby patterning. Geometrical interlace, a widespread type of decoration on Islamic textiles, was employed in silk weaving chiefly in southern Spain and North Africa and gave rise to a series of boldly conceived and brilliantly coloured silks. A characteristic of such textiles is the use of yellow silk instead of gold thread. The design is reminiscent of the Nasrid stuccowork of the Alhambra in Granada.
