505 |t Imagen de la portada:  |g "Coupled Column Prayer Rug with Eight Columns. Konya Districtr. this 16th century prayer carpet is related to the large group of coupled column prayer rugs. However it is more primitive than the typical carpets of this type, has an entirely different design feeling, closer to the abstract Seljuk tradition which inspired most of the group. Its peculiarities lie in the very large spandrel which dominates the area above the prayer niche; the number of columns; the drawing in the panel above the mihrab; and the drawing of tendrils within the spandrel. All in all, the carpet has impact mainly because of its scale and boldness - a feeling of strength and massiveness..."

Esta alfombra de oración del siglo XVI se vincula al extenso grupo de alfombras de oración con columnas pareadas. No obstante, presenta un carácter más primitivo que las piezas típicas de esta categoría y posee una estética muy distinta, más cercana a la tradición abstracta selyúcida que inspiró a la mayor parte del grupo. Sus rasgos distintivos residen en la gran enjuta que domina el espacio sobre el nicho de oración, el número de columnas, el diseño del panel situado sobre el "mihrab" y el dibujo de los zarcillos en el interior de la enjuta. En conjunto, la alfombra impresiona sobre todo por su escala y audacia, transmitiendo una sensación de solidez y monumentalidad...
