  • Imagen de la portada: Kurdish garden carpet, northwest Persia, late 18th or early 19th century. Woollen pile on cotton foundation, 1.83 x 2.79m. The major horizontal and vertical watercourses have been omitted and the field is divided into rows of simple, almost square beds. Each horizontal row contains one of three different types of stylised flowering plants. The main borders too contain similar flowering shrubs. As with so much Kurdish or so-called "proto-Kurdish" weaving of the late 18th or 19th century, the richness and intensity of the dyed wools are of particular note.
