- Imagen de la portada: Madonna and Child Enthroned with Saints. Lorenzo Lotto, 1505. Lotto shows "re-entrant" rugs in four of his paintings, this being the clearest and most detailed depiction. Paradoxically however, the rug has design elements and borders characteristic of the "para-Mamluk" group, generally supposed to have been woven in the Damascus region, of which no surviving prayer rug is known. The main border of what should be white Kufesque is partly obscured by overpainting or undercleaning and cannot be clearly seen, but it is identical to that on the two best-known "para-Mamluk" rugs and has the same characteristic corner solution.
