505 |t Imagen de la portada:   |g Fragment with a Kithara Player from a Dionysos Hanging. Egypt, 4th century A.D. 1.43 x 0.86m. This wonderful fragment of a Egyptian wall hanging, depicting a richly dressed female kithara player under an arch, came to the Abegg Foundation in extremely poor condition. The basic material is natural linen, while the scene is tapestry woven in coloured wool. The fragments had been "thoroughly" washed on site, so conservation treatment at Riggisberg in 1976 was confined to soaking and straightening them, thus restoring the musician's original individual posture, the placing them under glass on a padded wooden board without attaching stitches. At the time there was a strong suspicion that the kithara player was only part of the find and two related fragments later turned up in the United States, one depicting Dionysos, the other a satyr and maenad, in Boston and Cleveland respectively.
