|g Bukhara "large Medallion" Suzani. Southwest Uzbekistan, probably late 18th century. Silk embroidery on cotton. The large medallion suzanis from Bukhara are the rarest of all Central Asian embroideries. Although previously unknown examples do very occasionally appear, the entire group still numbers less than fifteen. They are generally thought to be the earliest of all suzanis and undoubtedly have the most dramatic, archaic designs. Irregularly drawn radial spokes extend to the edges of the medallion, separated by areas decorated with a variety of ornaments. The long leaves at each end of the field and sorrounding the flower motifs in the borders have an animal-like quality. 1.96 x 2.84 m.

Los suzanis de Bujará con gran medallón son los más excepcionales de todos los bordados de Asia Central.
